  1. Oh those college days (for me, long ago). The opening story of the girl fascinated me because of the differences in culture – which means there is so much to learn. Good luck with your studies.

  3. One day you will look back on this time of your life with fondness. Well … maybe not. Myself, I didn’t even finish high school, leaving at the end of the fourth year for nurse-aide training. Going on to tertiary education wasn’t such a big deal here, in Australia, back then in the ’70s. Even if I had earned a government scholarship for university, I wouldn’t have survived going to live in the city. I married at 18. I’m glad girls are usually more sensible these days. πŸ™‚

Thanks for dropping by my blog – reminded me to come by. I enjoyed your post, Mithai, and loved the graphics, especially the calendar. Very apt sometimes! That remote car looks cool. Good on you.

  5. Thanks for your visit, Mithai. I never went to university. Left school at 18, married at 22, worked for five years in an office in Berlin. Migrated to Australia aged 24 with my husband and two babies. By age 25 I had already three children, and later on one more child.
Sometimes I think it would have been fun going to college.

  7. Oh ! So this happens in real! Truth is indeed as strange as fiction or more. I am smiling now but can imagine how her parents would have felt. I guess there’s a kick in outsmarting your parents though in the process the child may end up making a fool or himself/ herself.

    1. Yes it was indeed tough on the parents…… With police case and they vanishing for a few days…..even though as you said it was quite fun to hear about…..but ultimately what the status is gonna be few years later no one knows.
And its too young to get married…..
Coz after sometime they are gonna meet new people and college day feelings might fade away……and it definitely caused a lot of hurt to the parents.
The parents are anyways soon gonna forgive all this and accept the couple…..but hope it stays pretty after a few years πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  8. Very interesting post – so the young girl bailed on her Dad to be with her boyfriend? Where does she live now? Is she still able to go to college and finish her studies?
Why would a professor force a student to laugh at his jokes? Why didn’t someone just point out to him you can only laugh when something is actually humorous. How great would it be if someone said “Hey Professor, no one is laughing , because your jokes are totally lame!!!!”
College sounds intense, but I am sure you will find a way to make it enjoyable!!!!

    1. I think they live in Bangalore now coz the guy got a job over there…..and the parents have gotten past it and accepted the relation.
Atleast that’s what I heard. I don’t know them directly.
Coz at the end of the day the girl and the parents couldn’t live without each other. πŸ˜‰
Probably they even got them settled with furniture…….
All the drama was unnecessary lol!!
I don’t know whether she’s continuing her studies. But I guess she will as there are a lot of great universities in Bangalore.
And its also the IT capital of India.
But I hope they still feel like living with each other after a couple of years as they got married too young πŸ™‚

And I guess the professor wanted to make the class lively and fun…..even though it didn’t help much πŸ˜‰ But it was done with good intentions……or maybe he’s just weird lol πŸ˜‰
But if you piss off the Prof, he might mess up your lab marks πŸ˜‰
      So no said much haha!!

      1. Just as an aside, M, I remember my first semester. We had a total internal marks of 200 I guess and guess how much I had? 26!!! 25 in maths (they loved me to bits throughout the years) and one nasty physics lecturer gave me 1 out of 25 just to spite me. The rest of them had no such pretensions or deviosuness and flat 0s were what I got uniformly πŸ™‚ It is incredible how I managed to piss off everyone in the darned place πŸ˜€
But you know what? I couldn’t care less. I even told them bluntly to do their worst and “phoeey to your internals”. (Uh oh, that is what I meant when I said, “too much fun” in an earlier comment. But hey, I did not need their stupid internals at all, after all).
This is not meant as some dare or encouragement to other kids in engg college, heavens, not at all. Just saying that I remembered it.. If anything, I am a pretty poor example. No student should be like me πŸ˜€

        Liked by 1 person

      2. I think every student should be like you!! Living life to the fullest πŸ™‚
And that’s pretty much evident from your captured pics in the blog πŸ™‚
And yeah……if teachers can stoop to the level of messing up the marks of students so much younger than them……then they don’t deserve respect from students as well just for their age and post as a ‘teacher’ πŸ™‚
I’m glad you told them to do their worst!!
After they had played dirty, pretending to be polite doesn’t make sense πŸ˜‰

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Not really, M. Living life to the fullest etc sounds all very nice. But I was too arrogant and overconfident. I thought I could do, be anything I wished to be. Yes, there are pretty poor human beings who masquerade as teachers. But I did find an HoD who like a father to me. (In loco parentis I used to call him – or in other words, my mad parent? hahaha)
It was sheer hubris, to challenge people and to fight over everything. And so futile. When we are young, we have no fear of the consequences. Maybe we should learn that first.
I enjoyed my years in engg college. Went off to every fest, every competition all around the country. The academics took a back seat, just enough to get by, but I knew my subjects well. And I thought that was all that mattered
These days it is different. Unless you have a complete hold of your academics, you are not likely to succeed. We were just lucky in the old days to have lesser competition than now.
Have fun by all means, but balance it well. Too much fun, you will cry for the rest of your life. Too little fun and you wade through it all in misery. Be a little cowardly, fight a lot less, argue with no one – I know this sounds like a wuss’ advice, so be it. But save your skin first πŸ™‚
I know you are a good student, let it remain that way. Achieve!

  10. Nice love story and for a moment it sounded like my post about when my Mom and Dad fell in love. (He was in engineering and she studied botany and languages. My Grandpa wasn’t happy about Dad since he was an inner city poor boy who worked since he was young to get where he was. Anyway, best of luck with this couple who managed to overcome obstacles and tricked her Dad.)
Your stuffed Jada and your sweet games which remind me of some of my grandkids and own children’s games, like checkers and chess. Oh, how ALL my kids love those “claw” machines!

To be cool at any age or should I say accepted by all ages there is something deep inside that you have to know how to tap in.

  11. I loved this post – the beginning especially, it is like fairy tale. Unthinkable in my culture that parents would intervene in their child’s love affair. I hope the two get well along and live happy life!
The professor and his laugh πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ mean as dr Evil or at least Mini Me (from Austin Powers) πŸ™‚
I just remembered my 3rd year in college. It was hectic as hell. And I was 37 years old and had 3 kids and worked and… anyway the only time to study was at night. And I just had divorced my husband… So one day, before an important exam I wrote in my palm: “TALK TO THE HAND CAUSE HEAD IS NOT LISTENING” and showed to my kids every time they came to me with complaints about each other.
Anyway I pulled through and craduated cum laude πŸ™‚

I wish you, Mithai, all the best with your studies. Make wise choices, that’s all.
PS. Playing with kids toys is ok. Fortunatelly I have kids, so I can borrow πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜›

    1. Yes here parents actively take part in marriages……be it a love marriage or an arranged one. Coz after marriage not only the kids but both the families also get into a bond.
Its an early marriage generally boys get married in late 20s and girls in mid 20s…….but I hope that they stay very happy in life and found real love πŸ™‚

And lol I also exactly thought of dr Evil!! That’s pretty much the scene πŸ˜‰
