2 years ago I had read a quote,
‘How would a person 200 years from the past would react, seeing that today humans own a light weight sleek device, the size of their palm, which is powerful enough to store all the information of the world, yet they use it to look at pictures of cute cats & pandas!!‘😂😂
How true is that!!
Which one would you prefer though? To live 200 years in the past. Or in the present. Or in the future.
I would choose the present. Because I won’t be able to adjust to the ‘disconnected‘ living of the past. And don’t also want to be a part of the ‘too much connected‘ living of the futuristic future….. which is actually much closer to the present than we think.
I was reading an interview by Mark Zukerberg.
He was asked, ‘What’s the future of Facebook?‘
‘Telepathy‘ was the answer.
Telepathy isn’t a futuristic concept anymore. There already have been chips designed and tested successfully which can convey a person’s thoughts to another person at another corner of the world, both having state of art chips embedded into their brains.
Facebook, the ultimate mode of ‘connection’ with the world…..in what more way can it revamp its communication artistry……yeah maybe by getting into people’s heads!!
Imagine getting stalked inside your head. Imagine going Ting Ting Ting everytime someone likes your picture. Imagine getting invaded by virus inside your brain. 😷😵
Someone monitoring your every move. Knowing all your thoughts. Stealing your thoughts. Implanting new thoughts. Its like science fiction movies coming true😉
Ofcourse we still don’t know how the settings and interfaces are gonna be. But its still not a good idea letting people get into your head.
Not metaphorically. Neither literally.
But the number of active users on Fb is decreasing day by day, including me. So I guess….every hype mellows down slowly.
As we all know, the price of a Mobile phone is determined by its ‘Storage Capacity’. The larger the internal and cache memory, the more data can it store and faster the phone will be.
I guess all of us at some point got the feeling especially before exams, ‘What if I could insert a SD Card in my brain and permanently store everything I study!!‘
Rather what if I could have a chip embedded in my brain that would act as ‘storage’.
Well the news is, even that has been tried out and tested successfully.
But the question is, what does that leave to ‘natural’ intelligence?? The richer people will buy more expensive chips and exel and poorer people will fall back??
So where are we heading?? The way Artificial Intelligence is thriving and advancing…. Stephen Hawking has stamped it to be the apocalypse of the world.
The scariest thing about AI is it can self teach. It learns from its previous actions using advanced automata laws. And then ‘Thinks’ and applies it in future actions.
The world runs on domination. Only way to oppress someone is curbing down their thinking abilities.
But when machines start thinking, with the amount of accuracy and skills they’ve been built, they are gonna do it better than us.
And when machines start producing other machines….. that’s the day its gonna get ugly. Because humans make machines to serve their own purpose. But for what purpose machines are gonna make other machines?
Every civilization after reaching its peak has to face downfall…. that’s the rule.
But. We won’t get into all this dooms day talk!!😉😪
I believe in chillingly out. Going with the flow, while munching on a KFC bucket only for myself!!👍 😋
So winter has arrived. Well…..it arrives a bit early for me as I’m one of those people who feels extra cold!
This is the time I get into trouble with mom. She wants to turn on the AC. Whereas I even turn off all the fans. We can’t stay in the same room for more than 5 minutes. Dad’s indifferent to all this. Fan, no fan, AC, no AC…..he doesn’t even notice.
I’ve even brought out my scarves. High neck clothes.Blankets.
Today in the morning while going to the market and I was so busy protecting myself properly against the cold, that coming back I realized I was wearing 2 DIFFERENT SLIPPERS.
Basically both are of same size, same design, only different color. Purple one’s mom’s and pink one’s mine.
But you can always say that its the new fashion😝😝
I’m extra sensitive to every weather condition. If I’m walking somewhere I always carry my umbrella. And if its sunny, a dark sunglass makes it more interesting!!😊 Else I get very bad headaches and my whole day just goes to waste.
Yeah….I think I should end up with a vampire. 😂😜
Prince charming flying down for me in a winged horse…..I think I can do without.
Rather a sleek vampire with flowy back-brushed hair, in black shades, black suit and a black car…… would do just fine, thank you!!
If not a vampire, then a wizard would also be perfect. Instead of the black car, a broomstick, or a ride on Buckbeak’s back or the flying car….they too would be pretty cool!😉
Ohhh I love Harry Potter so much!! And also Twilight. ❤❤
My new umbrella!!😊❤💖💗💞
Hardly even started to enjoy the holidays. And it’s already time for another semester.
End of chilling. Start of Grilling. 😰
Received the library books today….6 kg worth of burden. A memory chip won’t be that bad after all.
New glasses btw. The last one broke after I had kept it on sofa and someone sat on it.😂
See you all after semester!! Take care, lots of love!!❤❤
Bye bye

Or you could do both at the same time (no pun intended) by reading the book 2001; A Space Odyssey or watch the film. The movie came out in 1968, so you could see what people then thought of the future. Plus, the film is set in the future (now past) of 2001, but it begins with a long scene from the “Dawn of Man” with two groups of ape-like hominids. The main “character” is a computer named HAL, for heuristic algorithmic (thank you, spell-check) logic. His artificial intelligence/ personality definitely creates some havoc.
Enjoy your semester as your future becomes present.

This is an interesting concept! To be in the future and know how people from the ‘past’ thought of it ☺ I’ve heard of the movie many times, I’ll make sure I watch it this time ☺
It seems very amusing to me that in childhood days those cartoons we used to watch…..they portrayed future in such a colorful and advanced way.
Yet at this time we portray it as all dark and fumes and back to ‘cave age’…..well almost!☺

Well, when one of the most popular TV shows in the US is The Walking Dead, I guess our view of the future is a little dark. 😉 I was reading an article today about whether AI would fear death. Interesting, and another topic visited in 2001: A Space Odyssey. The article also questioned whether advanced AI would consider humans to be a waste of energy, which was the subject of a couple episodes of the original Star Trek series. The more things change, the more they stay the same! Indeed.

I love walking dead!!😊 But I hope the future is not like that!!😱😁
I actually tried to find the article you mentioned and read some interesting views while doing it.
Technically speaking AI will fear death only if the person who designed him, wrote the program like that. Else it should not fear death.
But another criteria of advanced AI is it self teaches. It has logical and reasoning power.
If the AI was made to serve a purpose, its aim is to complete the job, and that means it requires to stay alive. Maybe that way it may fear death.
Or, it may at some point refuse to do that job, if its risky for him……that would require logical judgement on his part……….most AI are built to collect info from various sources, and maybe by judging the parameters and doing some complex calculations…… it might come to its own conclusions…….it is possible at a more advanced stage.
I’m sorry if I’m just going on and onnnn!! This is such an interesting topic you mentioned. And I just couldn’t stop thinking about it ☺
I’ll watch the movie and see what they thought of it ☺
And yes if some AI is built to look after efficient utilization of energy and resource, and given too much freedom of decision, it might just eliminate humans ☺
Eagle Eye is a good movie on this starting that Transformer guy ☺
The Star Trek and Star War movies predicted some of the gadgets that are being made now…..or maybe the scientists took inspiration from them and built them. ☺
Sorry for the length!!

Thank you so much for sharing the article!! I’ll give it a read very soon. Its suddenly a very chaotic situation in India right now. All 500 and 1000 rupees notes got banned. Was announced few hours before, after all the banks closed. And no public transaction in any bank tomorrow as well! Everyone’s searching for change in their house!
Yess I’m really invested in this whole concept of AI. And I’m really glad you take as much interest, its fun talking about it…..and brings up interesting topics and perspective to think and discuss about ☺

I can see telepathy as a technology enhancement. I would choose to live in the future. I love the idea of a unified planet of people who use technology to spread intelligent life through the universe. I sometimes think what if we are the only species intelligent enough to make tools and to think (sort of). What if our evolutionary destiny is to leave this planet to colonize other worlds? ….Right now we are somewhere in between although we are closer to what we are becoming than we were 20 years ago.

A unified planet through telepathy! That’s a beautiful concept. Maybe if people spread good thoughts and feelings, it may bring change the not so good thoughts of some of the population.
Technology and science would spread faster and progress rapidly with so many minds connecting!
But there’s also the question of someone corrupting someone else’s thoughts using the technology, invading into their brain and doing unscrupulous things.
Ofcourse, with right prevention, telepathy can bring unimaginable and uncomprehendable advancement in very less time, maybe for the better.
We the only intelligent life form in this infinite space. Or there are others like us. Both are a scary thought.
And you are right, colonization is a very probable future. They are already working on it!!
What if earth is not our original planet? Maybe life form from another planet dropped here through some asteroid or something else.

I love to get all speculative. We don’t know how many times ‘consciousness’ has reached or surpassed this stage of evolution only to self destruct. We don’t know how many times other beings achieved this level of technology only to go out in a planetary extinction.
I do think that we are eternal, though in ways that we can’t fathom.

Its surprising as I too speculate about the exact things! How many times have there been advancement and again everything falling apart, life , development and extinction, how many more advanced planet……and their wipe out.
If there have been others who reached height of consciousness and enlightenment……and what happened after that?
Are our thoughts, mind, love and presence immortal. I too feel everything is eternal ☺
I often think, how beautiful it would be if I could lie under the stars in a desert and….. speculate about the universe ☺
Its always beautiful talking to you, reading your works and looking at your art ☺

One of the most profound moments of my life happened when I was 25.
I was camping on the North Shore of Oahu.
I fell asleep and something woke me.
I was on my back and when I opened my eyes the first thing I saw was the Milky Way without the intrusion of light that blots out the night sky in our cities.
I saw the majesty of our galaxy and realized how small I am. That sense of my real place in the universe has never left me.

I foresee a future for you as a futurologist Mithai – you have the technical knowledge and the imagination to exploit it.
Here in Britain anyway there’s a lot of nostalgia for the past, for how much better things were. I think those that got their wish to travel back in time would soon be scrambling for the next train back to the 21c 🙂

Or maybe scientists took inspiration from these books and movies and created something similar ☺
Well, I myself can’t even predict what I’m gonna have for lunch lol 😜

I would like to go both back and ahead, but in the form of an observer. I would not want to be there. I think that kind of time travel could be possible, that way you can not change or affect the outcome. Very interesting points you raised. I don’t want a chip in my brain and AI, is kind of scary if it were to advance to the point that it takes over, kind of like HAL in 2001. I know it has been done in other films as well. I recently saw a film called Chappie that I enjoyed, about AI. He wanted to be human, and be able to feel.

It did not get very good reviews, but I liked it. The book is supposed to be really excellent.

But optimism is like a light that shines through all nonsense.
Cynical for practicality, optimistic by heart, spirit and in every other sense☺
I loved A winter’s tale. It was so beautiful, like a poetry in motion☺ Books are always better, very rarely the movies match up to the books. I think only Twilight movies did justice to the books, not even Harry Potter!

But blindly trusting people, or ‘taking risks’ as some of my friends like to call it……it doesn’t come easy to me. Feels baseless and naive.
There’s too many greedy and unscrupulous people around.

I made that mistake of blindly trusting someone and it cost me dearly. You are so right about the unscrupulous part too. I have recently went through that, and now I find it hard to trust anyone other than really close friends, but even they live in their own bubble. If people were like you said, it would really be so much better of a world. It’s really not that hard to be a decent, tolerant and caring person.

I’m so sorry to hear that! Its really sad how low people can stoop. I always wonder how they get so messed up….. most people start out fine as a kid, then suddenly what happens…..why do people do such bad things!!??
But I was reading an article here in the blog and it said, most characteristics of people are defined when they are 2 years old.
A lot of times kids are born with latent psychopathic tendencies. In violent environment, those traits come out. But if they are brought up in a good household those tendencies stay latent forever.
When people get greedy for money and property, that also seems like psychopathic to me…..else normal people don’t do that I feel.
Or even people who break other’s trust, something psychologically wrong with them.

Maybe it has things of science and great inventions. Or maybe mentions of secret passages as told in Dan Brown’s book. Or many texts which might hurt the sentiments of the church. True everyone should have access to them but its so sad that never happens. So many more discoveries and conclusions could be made if general people got access to them.
There’s this guy called Zahi Hawass, he has some kind of monopoly over the pyramids, doesn’t let others enter the most interesting sites of excavation…… that’s just bad. All the power consolidated in only few hands.

I know who Hawas is. He was the Director Of Antiquities. I know when they had the political problem there a few years ago, they booted him out, but I think he is back, not sure.
I would think knowledge is something that should be shared by all mankind. I would think the church more likely has something to hide that they don’t want revealed like in the book. It could be anything, but I’d love to see it.

I used to watch some of the shows they used to make on him in Discovery chanel, I felt he was very rude to people around him. He might be very knowledgeable with years of experience but I believe skills can come at any age, sometimes students do better than their teachers.

I’m with you; Two words describe why I’d rather live in the present…just two: indoor plumbing. I’ve though a lot about pioneer women traveling in wagons across the U.S. and wonder what it was like without indoor plumbing. I’d give up my phone, internet, t.v., the car…everything except for indoor plumbing. And how they ever coped with sod houses, I’ll never know. BTW, thanks so much for visiting my site! Blessings, Stephanie

Ohh yeah!! Can give up everything other than indoor plumbing. Its a great point you raised. Can’t imagine life without it. How tough it must have been for people, specially for women back then! We are better off now, previously it was always wars and looting, even though the same things go on in a different way……I don’t know it might just go back to same in the future!
Thank you so much for visiting, have a wonderful weekend!!☺❤❤

I definitely would remain here in the present, carefully picking and choosing what ‘new’ technologies, activities, and interests I move forward with.
Just the idea of Mark Zukerman and his telepathic Facebook is so creepy to me.
Enjoyed reading this essay very much. Thank you. 🎄

Present is always better!! 😀 We know what we are up against, past and future are both very unpredictable…..even though a trip would be interesting!!☺
The Facebook idea is indeed creepy….its far too ambitious and messed up!
I’m very happy to have you here after so long and that you enjoyed the post☺💟💟

Stepping into the future that’s 200 ahead we would seem extravagantly stupid to them and moving to past would be too stupid… Hence staying in present is what I’ll love to be in… Btw good content.. worth reading

Hey thank you for visiting!! 🙂 I’m very glad you found it worth the read, present definitely seems the best to be in, at least we know what nonsense to expect :p :p lol

Yup present is awesome! But I would definitely love to visit the future if possible at least once to see where we stand in technology and humanity

I think technology will be concentrated in the hands of few along with all the power…..what are you expecting to find??

Id love to know how speed our space shuttle and rockets would be and how efficiently and in how much time we would reach other planets

Hope they do find out such ways!! Did you read that article about Mars where they apparently found evidence of an ancient civilization ….dunno if it’s true but hope so lol ☺
I think in ancient days to there were galactic travels happening all over, that would be cool☺
Apparently NASA has built an UFO shaped super fast shuttle.

Would there be any other life in the universe or we’re the only ones! Would the planet Earth attacked by any alien life😁

Read an interview by Stephen Hawking where he believes there’s life beyond earth and pretty hostile. He’s even discouraging people to set up their individual stations and send signals into space!

I think you had a wise choice to live at the present than future or the past. I was thinking to choose future by the pure assumption that it will be better. Re-thinking again, that assumption could be very wrong. There are so many factors involving – as you mentioned. Although I am not afraid of AI, but yes it could turn to something we have not imagined yet. I think we need to ensure we consider to include the “Three Laws of Robot” from Isimov in them.

I was reading a news that in some lab a robot had killed a scientist. After further investigation it was found that the scientist’s colleagues had planned the whole ‘accident’. Isimov’s laws are being broken.
Thank you so much for reading!!☺☺

Foe me it would be the time machine so I could choose to visit past and future to check out how people live and use the technology of the age.

Hi I’m sorry for the late reply, somehow I had missed through the notifications!
Yeah exactly, just like the past is so mysterious and rustic, the future is excruciatingly exciting! I too wanna witness both!☺
Have a great day☺

Oh man, Terminator was a dystopia and they had it right all along. What can we do against these thinking machines??
