Who are you stranger??

  1. Years ago a stranger helped me when, during a blizzard, my car was stuck on the icy parking lot at my apartment building. He pushed the car enough so I could drive it, and then without a word, he disappeared. Ten years later I met the man who would become my husband and I learned then that he and I had lived in the same apartment building at the same time, years before. And ~ you guessed it ~ he was the helpful stranger in the parking lot. It’s a small world!

And my my Maureen Potter seems to be quite a beautiful lady 😉 This is such a sweet story!! 😀 😀 What happened to her later?? Potters are always interesting 😉 And your other teacher remind me of Dolores Umbridge from HP.
Also reminds me of a friend who had a crush on our Maths teacher. We called her ‘perfume shop’ :p :p His crush lasted till the last day of school 😉 Thank you again for sharing such a fascinating story with me 😀 😀

  2. You are an impossible romantic – how lovely people like you still exist!
When I was a child of 8 my parents took me to a military tattoo in England, part of which was an air show. I just loved how the helicopter made a bow to the audience at the end and applauded. Many decades later I married that helicopter’s pilot after meeting him in Portugal. He is 21 years older than me and we have been together for 23 years.

    1. This is just a magical story. I mean how beautiful and incredible!! Made my day listening to your story. You were only 8 when you saw him and years later having him as the love of your life…..how beautiful!! 🙂 Did you see his face the first time you saw him?? What did you tell him when you again saw him in Portugal?? I just can’t grasp how lovely and destined it must have been!! 😀 😀

      1. We met on stage in Portugal in an amateur drama production and got talking during rehearsals. He is a great entertainer. He told me that he had trained to be a helicopter pilot in the Army. I told him about my father’s Army career and that we were always taken to Military Tattoos. I loved especially loved the one in Tidworth, England. He then told me that he did air displays at Tidworth and devised a unique way to make the helicopter bow to the audience once. I was in my mid-thirties then. We did the math and worked out the year and realised that we had met before. Despite a big age gap, we became great friends instantly and discovered that we had lots in common: theatre, sailing, walking, travel, class background and most importantly, the same sense of humour. I felt sorry that he was a widower and tried to find him potential ‘girlfriends’. He went to visit relatives in Ireland one week; I missed him so much that I realised I was in love with him. I then had to fight off all the girlfriends I found him, before he confessed he had fallen in love with me at first (or second) sight, but was worried that he was too old for me. He is 80 years old this year, we have a 20 year old daughter and still do those same list activities we did then. We are thinking of down-sizing, now that our daughter has left home and going to live on a boat in Southampton.

I’m so happy for you guys. Age is just a number. Love and fun is all that matters 😀
And lots of best wishes to your daughter in her new journey.

  3. This makes me think about some of the friendly strangers I’ve met in my short life. There have been a few that I still think about from time to time, because they left an impression on me. This post also makes me wonder if I’ve been that nice stranger for anyone else? To be entirely honest I believe I have in one case…although I didn’t keep in touch with the person I’m thinking about. It’s a shame, but that’s how life goes sometimes.

    1. Its really a very nostalgic feeling. Strangers do affect us in deep places of heart….and only after we realise that we are never gonna meet again……it can make us feel really bad……about how it could have turned out….maybe it could have been really good…..or maybe not.
I’m sure the stranger you are talking about thinks about you and maybe wonders the same thing…… 🙂
And a lot of tigers……if they could talk would consider you a saviour and a very valuable stranger to them 😀

      1. Yeahh that you should :p I have a thing for lions. I try to watch every documentary on them….sometimes I just Google and look at their pictures……so beautiful and magnificent. My lifelong fantasy is adopting a lion cub…..but that ain’t happening anytime soon lol. But cats in general are a class of grace power and intelligence of their own. And I greatly appreciate your efforts to stop the heinous killings of tigers. Its so shameful and pathetic. I wish you all the success in your endeavors and hope the world also cooperate.

      2. Thank you for your encouragement! And please never adopt a lion cub, or any big cats. It’s dangerous and abusive, because the cats often end up getting placed in sanctuaries or hurting people. Then they get “put down.” The pet trade is also a big part of the illegal wildlife trade, and when people own/post photos of themselves with cute baby big cats they’re inadvertently fueling the demand for exotic pets. I know you said you won’t be adopting any lion cubs soon, but I had to say that.

Disclaimer aside, if you like watching documentaries of lions I recommend checking out Wild Safari Live. It’s quite literally a LIVE African safari that’s streamed two times a day from South Africa. There are multiple lion prides in the area, so sometimes we get to watch them live! You can watch it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF47Za1lfjM or on their Nat Geo page: http://www.wildsafarilive.com/

      3. Thank you so much for making me aware of it!! I knew that its not the best idea to keep these giant cats away from their natural habitats but thank you for shaping up your points like this 🙂 I do hope I get to see them up close someday. And once again thank you for referring to the channels. I’ll visit them the soonest!! 🙂 Its really cool and so great that something like this exists 😀

  4. Fascinating vignettes- One never knows how often “strangers” will dovetail, in and out of our lives. People have appeared, and reappeared, in my life and in very dichotomous situations. Great cats, however, have only appeared to me in zoos or sanctuaries.

    1. Yeahh strangers do leave their mark in a significant way no matter how short the encounter was.
Big cat’s haven’t appeared to me even in sanctuary. I had visited one….but didn’t get to see any. However I’ve actually cuddled a one in a ‘park’ in Thailand…… Even though I think they are always kept sedated. Yeah its sad for these cats.

      1. Two sides to the one secret—

        1) use a soft pencil and unlined A4 flip-pads, get your thoughts down as briefly as you can and just keep on editing. Cut the dross, keep only the facts (opinions are nice, but they aren’t facts). Build logical arguments etc etc (you’ve heard it all before); and …

        2) Oodles of good coffee. But not (r) NOT within the catchment hours of going to bed. AND …
        work hard, play hard.

BUT: the work comes first. You’ll have the rest of your life to play in … good luck!

  6. wow, I really loved reading this. It’s just 7:39 in the morning, the sky has lots of clouds, seems to be it’s bound to rain…. and to read things like this, it just make me put into motion for the day. I may write on my blog about this! But to mention a stranger I met, it was in a big mall, and someone came with a tag on his shirt, he was not alone, there was another guy with him. He didn’t know me, and I didn’t know him either. But then he greeted me talking like he was a clown trying to make a child smile. he would compliment me as if I was suddenly a 6 year old little girl. I looked behind me in case it was not to me he was talking. I felt I was smiling. I turned to call my brother who was checking on some aftershaves and told him “look at that guy, he’s the strangest person I’ve ever seen” and when he turned his head… I could not find the guy anymore. I looked everywhere. But no trace of the guys I had just had an encounter with. I never forgot his way of greeting me and cheering me up. But I forgot his face completely.

And I also hope your day went well!!
As for the stranger you mentioned….. yeahh that was indeed a very strange stranger!! I can imagine how bewildering it must have been for you. It was indeed a very memorable encounter 😀 And the way he disappeared…….just makes it even more interesting!!
Btw what about the other guy who came in you mentioned about….did you get to see him??

      1. No, he too disappeared with him but I did not notice him especially because he was not saying anything, just a smile. The other one was the one who talked to me in that odd but nice and happy way. I don´t know what ever happened. They just were gone, 😀
I love the rain in the mornings too. Tomorrow it´s going to be rainy again. Hugs, Mithai! ❤

      2. You know Carmen you made me remember about another stranger that had slipped my mind. I really should have written about him in this post!! How could I’ve forgotten about this man!!

I was around 5 or 6. We had visited iskon temple. We are their life members. They got huge beautiful temples all round the country.

On one such visit I saw a foreigner guy sitting nearby with his daughter. And he was smiling at me. A really lively music was being played there and the conventional thing to do is clap to it. He was showing me and his daughter how to clap to it.
My parents were also sitting nearby.

Later I went to the adjoining restaurant for dinner with my parents. I didn’t like the veg food so I guess was throwing a bit of tantrums…….this guy had also come there with his daughter.
Suddenly he started making faces at me and his daughter.
Initially I found it very weird. But then I realised he’s just trying to make me and his daughter laugh and cheers us.
I also made faces at him……this continued for sometime. :p :p His daughter was also laughing. Later we bade goodbye to them.
He was a really nice and funny guy.

But the most interesting thing happened when I was 13.
We had visited another iskon temple at bangalore. And here I saw someone who looked a lot like him. His hairs had greyed a bit but still….I think it was him.

Whoa I’m sorry for the length.

I hope you had rain today!!
Lots of love and hugs to you 😀 😀

      3. Oh, what sweet story you just told me! I feel it was the same man. it is so strange how some people get involved in our lives… forever. I am sure he and his daughter also remembers you. Thanks for telling me this. YES YES, it is raining whoa! It’s lovely. I just love the rain and the sun but both are beautiful. The rain is soothing. You know, a while ago I posted an entry about your article. In the beginning, what I wanted was to reblog it and then write my impressions, like an entry within an entry . I tried three times and the page was not reloading. I checked my draft entries to see if it was there but it wasn’t. So I wrote my article and put your name and blog as reference. I hope you can read it in your language. Maybe using google translate. There is a second story as well. Dear, it is nice to have met you. Have a lovely week! ❤

Believe it or not I like some rap all though I don’t collect or go out of my way to listen to it, that a crazy statement….LOL!! I have music that I could listen for a year never listen to a repeat. I also love Indian classical, Ravi Shankar, Zakir Hussain and have you heard L Shankar great violinist, check him out, you may like him.

I often think of a stranger I met on a train and wonder how his life turned out. Myself and my two small children had an overnight journey back home after staying with my mother for a few days. There was a young aboriginal man across the aisle from me, nice looking, and all decked out in blue denim jeans and jacket and I think he carried a guitar case. He was alone and we exchanged a smile. I ended up sitting and chatting with him while my children slept and the night journey passed very pleasantly and a lot quicker than normal.

Speaking of coincidences, this one does not relate to people but houses. Before I moved here, I had only been in this area once before when my first husband and I travelled through to go interstate. It was autumn, and I saw this pretty cottage dwarfed by a huge elm tree. I remember looking back over my shoulder at it as we went by – an image that stuck in my head. Less than ten years later I came here with a new partner to that very house which belonged to his family for decades. I recognized it instantly and it felt like home.

Thanks for dropping by my blog and sprinkling it with love, Mithai. A pleasure to have you.

    1. I’m sorry for the late reply Christine. We had a project submission at college, a crazy week!!.
What amazing stories Christine. Train journeys are the most interesting things in the world. So many short stories by some of the greatest writers of the world hv been written around train journeys. And so many classic movies made on the same.I really think its the best way to meet a stranger 😀 😀
I’m sure the man still remembers and has a smile on his face remembering the conversation he had with a ‘stranger’ 🙂

And I really think that universe leaves signs or hints about something that’s meant to happen. Or encourages you to pursue something that’s a step towards future. And that’s why we go back and forth about things or events that’s significant in our lives in the future 🙂 Its really an incredible story you shared about that cottage!!
The more I’m reading stories about encounters the more amazed I’m getting to know about such wonderful experiences.
Thank you so much for sharing them with me Christine!! ❤ ❤
I always wait for you to visit my blog!! 😀 😀
Hope you are having a beautiful week 🙂

  14. Bonjour MITHAI

  15. Oh, about a thousand years ago, when I was a kid, we were at the beach and a wave knocked me over. I don’t think I was in any danger of drowning, but I felt like I was and some older girls pulled me upright and played with me for a while, lifting me over the waves. When I wasn’t as scared anymore, they went away. I don’t think I had the presence of mind to thank them, but I often think of them and their kindness.

  16. That’s very intersting about the strangers in your life.

One of my favourite songs is the song Some Enchanted Evening from the movie South Pacific.

But it has a line that goes,

    Some enchanted evening
    you will meet a stranger
    a very special stranger…

Your blog post reminds me of that song. 🙂

Just thought I’d let you know, Mithai, that my 1st vampire novel has been published and is available for sale on Amazon:

    1. Wow its such a beautiful song Chris!! I just listened to it and took me to a different world 🙂 I also happened to come by the song ‘Some enchanted evening’ by Frank Sinatra. Both the singer’s voices are enchanting!! Thank you so much for referring this song!! 😀
And I just checked out your book. None like this definitely has never been recorded in History. Its very interesting and the themes you introduced into it…..really new and unique.
I’m sure everyone’s gonna like it, all my best wishes and congratulations to you.
And yayy finally we get to meet Dracul Van Helsing!! 😀 😀

      1. Yes, vampire hunter Dracul Van Helsing appears in this novel. 🙂

        Glad you enjoyed the song.

It’s really a beautiful movie too- the film South Pacific- it was a Technicolour musical movie made in the late 1940s.

But the island on which the movie was shot was really beautiful and enchanting.

If you ever get a chance to watch it on DVD or TV, I’d highly recommend it. 🙂

Thank you so much for your kind words on my vampire novel. 🙂

And this vampire novel which is like no other in recorded history 😀 is now available in paperback for those who prefer to read their books in paperback rather than Kindle.

  17. Hi Mithai, That was a unusually and strangely sweet story of your friend’s mom and dad. The strangers you have recalled are cute too. The jungle safari story is incredible. I went for one in the last week of April and now I am happier that I followed the instructions and did not get out the jeep.

      2. From materialistic point of view pretty good, we have computers in class and everything is fully equiped. The problem is that teachers are not very well paid which is a problem because there is practicly no “fight” for the seat of teacher. Which means that people that can not do anything else, they will go teaching. Also the school system did not change for tens of years which is a problem if you think about how much more we know about how mind learns. I think that school is teaching us mostly facts making us machines that just write what is on board. Instead they should learn us how to think by ourselves.

      3. I think its the same condition in most countries. The pay is really not good so the dedication it needs to be a teacher, no one’s willing to give, often its the last resort. And has been very stagnant over the years as you said, specially in case of syllabus . Schools really do need to change…..but you are gonna find a lot more freedom in college from the conventional system…..even though not fully, they still go in the same path based on the syllabus and semesters.
Actually once you get into the industry professionally, that’s when you finally get to break out of the system and do things your way.

By the way, don’t burn too much of midnight oil – i think that getting a calm sleep every night is much better than getting golden grades 😛
