People often ask why world peace is so difficult.
I think the day we attain world peace, would be the beginning of the end of human species.
Let me explain what makes me say so.
Most people feel the need to get married and have kids for security.
Troubling thoughts of sudden difficulty and/or old age can create a looming sense of uncertainty and insecurity.
Without corruption, people would have faith on their community, neighbours, hospitals, shopkeepers, police and politicians. They would feel secured.
They would have belief that in times of need, they would be taken care of and not cheated or harassed.
And with that feeling, the need to go through the process of partnership and having children, would slowly disappear.
Partnership and children involves tremendous effort, dedication, risk and pain. It doesn’t always feel like work. But if it were a job, many people wouldn’t do it. Yet millions of people go through the process to secure their future.
If everything was too peaceful, people wouldn’t bother going through the entire process.
And that’s how Evolution makes sure, people breed enough to take the species forward.
Love and attraction is a bunch of chemicals acting together to make people produce progeny. The hormones just makes it seem as if you want it.
Right after the World Wars, the world saw highest increase in population than ever previously recorded.
Corruption leads to war. And war is followed by corruption. Volatile and unpeaceful environment fuels the increase in population since people seek security and support in one another.
Countries that rank high on corruption and political unrest often have higher population.
I always wondered what evolutionary significance do ‘psychopathic’ behaviour have.
According to research, psychopathic people tend to be more promiscuous and produce more children, hence taking the species forward.
Its estimated 1.2% of world population is psychopathic and such similar disruptive behaviour is only increasing. Apart from producing more children, they spread corruption and makes society feel unsafe, compelling others to partner up and produce more children.
Even the most twisted human traits provide some sort of evolutionary benefit, that’s the only reason they exist.
‘Evolutionary benefit’ doesn’t mean that any creature is getting benefitted individually. It only means they get to produce offsprings, by hook or crook.
The requirements of evolution also changes from time to time. As recently as only 3000 years ago human’s brains shrunk in size.
Before that, evolution needed human beings to be more intelligent in order to survive in harsh conditions.
But after life became more comfortable and population increased, evolution needed humans to get long and depend on eachother as a community.
Such high intelligence wasn’t required anymore, rather collective intelligence of the community was desired. And thus intelligence and brain size also shrunk.
Highly intelligent people are known to be cynical, pragmatic, unforgiving, overly independent and not get along with a lot of people. They also produce less children.
And evolution doesn’t want that.
IQ in humans is approximated to be falling by 7 points with each generation, i.e 0.2 points per year.
Highly intelligent genes are slowly getting weeded out.
So the probability of producing highly intelligent people like Einstein is decreasing.
We’re moving towards a future where people would possess more of a golden retriever personality, goofy, docile, gets along with everyone and produces more children.
The average IQ of the world is 85-115.
Whereas only a handful of people have too low IQ. Or too high IQ.
Its another evidence that survival of the fittest isn’t synonyms with survival of the most intelligent. Evolution favours averageness.
It only means who’ll keep the system running and would voluntarily or involuntary produce more children.
Few decades back overpopulation was a concern and many policies were implemented to stop population influx. However in recent times, depopulation is the new concern and measures are being taken to fight that too.
Evolution would keep balancing population as long as it wants to, i.e. as long as it needs the human species.
World peace doesn’t seem to be entirely in the hands of humans. We can strive for a more peaceful world, more than the result, its the effort that stirs the course of future.
Millions of years ago water creatures put efforts to live on land. And here we’re today.
Evolution makes you give effort. And your efforts lead to evolution. Evolution is the cause and effect of effort.
