Does Evolution Give A Damn?

  1. Wow Mithai, some big leaping to conclusions there πŸ™‚ It would take many hours to debate and/or challenge some of your assertions but, really, “Most people feel the need to get married and have kids for security.” Not in my part of the world they don’t. Yes, I think women – many not all – still seek an ideal partner. Yes, security may be a factor. Some – not all – have a maternal instinct. Men generally marry less readily and certainly not for reasons of security. I don’t think many consider it a “tedious process” though certainly many marriages end up in divorce.

And a fall in IQ rates = people having more children?

OK I might have to look at some of the other points though of course you’re not necessarily wrong.

I honestly don’t think evolution and survival of the species applies to modern humans, if it ever did. We are collectively driven by greed and self-interest which, unless your generation and those to follow manage to reverse this, will inevitably lead to a total wipe-out.

On that cheery note Mithai I hope you’re doing fine πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Paul hope you’re doing well!
In whichever part of the world it is, whether someone is marrying their college sweetheart or anyone else, the need to settle down comes from need for security. Security doesn’t only imply financial or physical security. It also signifies emotional security. A man or a woman having a rough day at work, would want to come home to a supportive family.
Producing heir for your hard earned money is also a feeling of security.

Love and attraction is often a philosophical concept. However its also a very scientific process of certain hormones which have been undoubtedly observed over brain scans.
Ofcourse it doesn’t mean that we stop believing in love, because its very real.

Again as per research, love helps us choose the healthiest genes, helping evolution.

There have been many researches which found a negative correlation between IQ and number of children produced.

But ofcourse in no way you can call rest of the population dumb.

There is greed, jealousy amongst animals too. These too are evolutionary traits.

Belief in any concept is a personal belief system and I absolutely respect your’s.
      Have a great day!

  2. Interesting. I think that external factors play a role in extinctions and evolution. Younger Dryas may have been a near extinction event for humans at the end of the last ice age. It certainly ended evolution for megafauna in North America.

  3. Many reasons for more people. One, better medical treatment. In 1955-1975. War were alive and well still. Vietnam, Korea war and the wars of Israel. Just a few. Today 14 active conflicts in our world. In 1880. 40 years old. Was a long life. Today in the USA. Close to eighty. If the population growth don’t decrease. In 50 years, we shall be in trouble. I loved your thoughts. This would be a long conversation, face to face.

    1. Hi John glad to see you in my blog! Hope you’re doing well. Yes absolutely, various factors contribute to increase in population. I was reading somewhere that population is supposed to start declining in next 100 years. Many countries like Finland, Hungary and even China are encouraging policies to increase population. Some countries give extra economic benefits to couples with more children. Yes indeed it would be a very intersting and long conversation and I would love that too! 😊
      Take care

  4. That’s such an interesting idea about what would happen if life were peaceful and serene. I don’t think we need to worry about that happening since mankind is bent on destruction. Glad to see you back. Have a wonderful Peaceful Sunday. ❀

  5. I enjoyed reading your blog post Mithai! Fantastic comments as well. 😎 In many Western cultures people marry for a whole host of reasons eg religious, family, cultural etc. Some people just want to get married so they can invite all their friends round! πŸ‘

And I agree that marriage can provide security on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. But I feel the human intellect has evolved as far as it can go and instead of striving for the need for security; we should learn to be more happy, healthy and joyful people. πŸ˜‡πŸ•―οΈResearch shows they live longer, even if they are a bit Goofy! 😜
